School Safety Services and Training

Weather-related disasters, 9-11, the Oklahoma City bombing…public safety is an increasing concern in communities across the nation. CSI’s reputation for innovative community outreach programs is well known, as it continues to develop initiatives that actively engage and mobilize the community. Examples of such community programs are:

Safety Training and Resources (STAR)

CSI and the National Sheriffs’ Association (NSA) partnered with the Department of Justice Office of Community Oriented Policing Services (DOJ/COPS) to produce this innovative, citizen-led program designed to assist local law enforcement agencies and emergency responders in collecting and disseminating local information for community preparedness. The STAR initiative is a community-based training and database development project designed to provide emergency responders with crucial resource information. With training provided by local law enforcers and representatives from various Regional Community Policing Institutes (RCPI), community members will be empowered to collect, collate, and disseminate important community safety and resource information through a variety of portals.

Neighborhood Watch (NW) Program and Toolkit

As part of an effort to meet President Bush’s goal of tripling the number of Neighborhood Watch groups and empowering and mobilizing them in the fight against terrorism, CSI was selected by the National Sheriffs’ Association (NSA) to develop the Neighborhood Watch Toolkit and accompanying training program. In the training and technical assistance program, individuals attend a CSI-led train-the-trainer session, and then go back to their communities to assist their civic leaders with community safety. The NW Toolkit is a box containing 6 CD-ROMs with 18 PowerPoint training courses, downloadable and printable Facilitator and Participant guides, 5 posters, 3 flipbooks, and 17 other tools and forms. It can be ordered through the National Sheriffs’ Association.
