Neighborhood Watch Training Courses

The Neighborhood Watch courses are available on CD-ROM and offer a self-paced PowerPoint training presentation. Each course offers downloadable tools such as Participant manuals, forms, flyers, etc.

Neighborhood Watch Basics

  • This primer provides information on various programs and services that support Neighborhood Watch, and the various roles and responsibilities of NW volunteers.

Volunteer Management

  • This curriculum provides the basics of volunteer management and leadership. Topics include Recruitment; Interview and Placement; Motivation; Leadership and Teambuilding; and Recognition, Evaluation and Retention.

Strategic Planning

  • This curriculum focuses on the key elements of developing a strategic plan for both the Law Enforcement officer and the NW group. Topics include the process of strategic planning; how to conduct neighborhood assessments and prioritize initiatives; and how to develop an action plan.

Forming Partnerships

  • Forming Partnerships teaches skills that can be utilized to reach out to civic, social and service organizations in efforts to expand partnership activities.

Planning and Conducting Effective Meetings

  • This curriculum provides instruction relating to the planning and conducting of NW meetings. Skills will be developed in logistics of meetings, developing agendas, facilitating the meeting, managing disagreements, and follow-up activities.

Observation Skills

  • Teaches officers how to instruct citizens on various aspects of observation, enabling them to become the extra “eyes and ears” of police.

Reporting Suspicious Activities

  • Helps to identify what activities should be considered suspicious, and presents information on how to report as well as what and when to report.

Target Hardening for the Home

  • Teaches a specific methodology on how to evaluate homes for security, and provides general information on how to work with the public to make our neighborhoods safer and more secure.

Creating Awareness and Maintaining Momentum

  • Gives an overview of starting and maintaining a NW program, creating awareness and recruiting members, and identification of neighborhood needs.

Teamwork

  • Explains the process of forming teams, as well as the benefits and characteristics of teams.
